Eugene O'Neill said that without, what he referred to as, (erm) I cant remember what he referred to it as in 'The Ice Man Cometh" (erm) pipe dreams. That effected me very much as it stuck me that it was absolutely wrong. You've got to strip all the illusion away and then you have to build all the pipe dreams to know they're untrue. But you can't build anything, unless on absolutely solid ground. Illusions are ok, delusions are ok as long as you understand what they are, so, I suppose my plays are concerned with people knowing the difference between having and illusion. Maintaining it because you require it rather than believing it to be a truth.
